The Cub Scout colors are blue and gold. They have special meaning,
which will help boys see beyond the fun of Cub Scouting to its
ultimate goals.
The blue stands for truth and spirituality, steadfast loyalty,
and the sky above.
The gold stands for warm sunlight, good cheer, and happiness.

The 2008 Cub Scout Day Camp was held at Leesylvania State Park last
week, June 16 - 20 and was a huge success! The theme was "Wild, Wacky,
Wonderful Wheels". As in most camps, the scouts have their favorite
activities. For this camp, Archery, BB Guns, Leatherwork, Woodworking
and Fishing were the big hits! Well, until the last day when the O.W.L.
Fire Dept sent one of their trucks out to spray the kids! That was an
awesome finale to a wonderful week!

The typical day at camp was started off with the Flag Ceremony
followed by each den participating in 7 activities focusing on
wheels and teamwork. On Monday, Den 12 participated in
Woodworking - (the scouts built a covered wagon), Treading -
(they climbed into a "track" of sorts and walked a course), Craft -
(they decorated a backpack), played a game of Marbles, played
Volleyball, learned about First Aid and shot bow and arrows at the
Archery station.

Tuesday, the scouts enjoyed Leatherworking, where they were able to
decorate a holder for the beads they received from each activity.
They also participated in Fishing, shooting BB Guns, did painting
at the Art station, planted grass seed at the Nature station, cleaned
up the beach at the Conservation station and got to cross a Rope
Bridge.

Wednesday was another day filled with fun and teaching the scouts
teamwork! They went to the Sport station where they climbed into a
blow-up hamster wheel and had to work together to get the wheel from
one end of the course to the other. They also built Wheel Barrows at
the Woodworking station, made butter and bread at Cooking, made a
water wheel at Water Works, a spin wheel at the "Gears" craft station,
learned about pulleys and weights and showed what they learned at
the Archery station.

Thursday, more teamwork and more wheels! They started off decorating a
leather bracelet at the Leatherworks station, learned aboutt he water
cycle at the Weather station, made leaf imprints on clay and foil at
the Nature station, clay pots at Art, shot BB Guns, went fishing and
showed their skill on the Rope Bridge.

Friday, the last day of camp and Family Day, the scouts raced hot
wheel cars, raced baloon driven cars, decorated frisbies, made some
great pictures at art, ran in the hamster wheel, made pin wheels and
shot BB Guns. Then all dens performed a skit or song they all came up
with which was very cool! We got to thank all of the camp directors
and staff for all of their hard work to put together a totally awesome
time for the scouts! And last but not least, everyone awaited the
arrival of the O.W.L. Firetruck so they could all get sprayed!
I would personally like to send out a "BIG THANK YOU" to all of
the camp directors and staff for a job well done. And a special
THANK YOU to Kelley T. and Jim P. and to all of the Den 12 den
walkers made up of volunteers from Packs 611, 964, 1149, 1189, I can't
thank you all enough! You sincerely made the camp that much more
enjoyable and my hat's off to all of you. I would also like to thank
Mr. Pleasant for the wonderful pictures! All scouts received a very
nice patch (pictured on the left) along with an unforgettable
experience! If any of you from Den 12 have any pictures you'd like
to add, or any comments at all, please send me an email by
Clicking Here
and let me know! If the picture shows a close up of your
scout, I also need permission to place it on the site (that's why you
see my son in almost every pic, for now).
